How To Get There:
Highway 96 west takes you directly to the public square in the middle of downtown Franklin. At a traffic circle facing a statue of a Confederate soldier, pull into the circle and take the first exit to the right onto East Main St. Go through the first traffic light at Second Avenue and look for Landmark Booksellers on the left.

Franklin on Foot: Step in for a guided tour of this historic town

Explore historic Franklin, Tenn., a town rich with history. Think history is boring? One of these entertaining tours will get you to think again! Franklin on Foot provides a variety of guided tours that showcase Southern culture -- and haunting memories.

The 90-minute Classic Franklin tour covers about six blocks. Tourists will learn about some of the town’s most interesting historical figures, as well the significance of its historic landmarks. The tour is offered most days of the year. Reservations must be made by 6 p.m. the previous evening. Tours usually depart from Landmark Booksellers, 114 E. Main St. This tour is completely wheelchair accessible.

If you favor history with a bit more gore, sign up for one of the three evening guided tours.  The Haunted Franklin tour is suitable for most ages. Tourists will spend an evening in downtown Franklin learning about the departed socialites, businessmen, soldiers and children who once called Franklin home. The evening tours depart from the old Courthouse.

If that’s not spooky enough, try the Ghosts and Gore Tour on which guides divulge some of Franklin’s best ghost stories and malicious crimes including murders, rapes and prostitution.  The content makes this tour inappropriate for children younger than 14. 

The Murder and Mayhem on Main Street Tour cuts the ghost stories and moves straight to the heinous crimes of Franklin’s past.  Explore stories of murder, prostitution, abortion, riots, blackmail, bootlegging and war.This tour isn't intended for young chilren or the faint of heart.

Franklin on Foot hosts many fun events for children. The I Spy tour is a hands-on scavenger hung in which children seek historical objects and dates. The tour is best suited for children aged 5 to 11. Visit the website for a complete list of tours.
