Chaffin’s Barn Dinner Theatre: mysteries, musicals and more
Published: Apr 16, 2009
It’s one thing to enjoy a southern-style buffet dinner. It’s another to see a play under the same roof.
Chaffin’s Barn Dinner Theatre, located on the outskirts of bustling downtown Nashville, is a veteran of the city’s dinner-entertainment scene. Known for its family-friendly atmosphere and rustic feel, the venue brings the dinner theater experience to Nashville with a hint of Southern charm.
The family-owned theater is a replica of a barn, painted red with white accents and a white picket fence. Chaffin's is located just far enough from downtown to be called quaint, but close enough to draw city dwellers.
A professional theater, Chaffin’s has been around since 1967. Since its opening day more than 40 years ago, Chaffin’s has had two stages on which numerous mysteries, murders and musicals unfold each year. And you might get to see the actors closer than onstage; many of the actors do double duty waiting tables at this cozy venue.
The buffet offers a choice of entrees, ranging from chicken breast parmesan to roast beef au jus, various vegetables, macaroni and cheese, cornbread and homemade desserts.
For more information on Chaffin’s and show schedules, visit the dinner theater's Web site. In the summer, Chaffin's has special children's events, both productions and summer acting workshops.
Actors wishing to audition for Chaffin's productions should call (615) 646-9977, extension 0, for an appointment. They should prepare a minute-long comic monologue and bring a headshot and résumé.
Show tickets are generally $50 for adults, $25 for children ages 12 and younger, depending on the type of show. Tickets for the show only are about $30 for adults and around $25 for children. These prices include coffee, tea and sodas.
Active-duty members of the military in uniform get in free. Their spouses get half-off on both the dinner and the show.
