Gaylord Opryland: much more than a hotel

Published: May 4, 2009

Gaylord Opryland Hotel is a resort that stretches the definition of the world “hotel.” Gaylord's motto is “Everything in one place” and it lives up to the boast.

With acres of indoor gardens, boutiques and specialty shops, along with an array of dining options, the hotel offers luxurious lodging with plenty to do and see.

The hotel’s interior is a surprise compared with its stately outward appearance. Guests entering Gaylord are met with the gurgling sound of bubbling streams and waterfalls, and  a cool breeze whips through the air. The sprawling atriums feature hundreds of green trees and plants and winding walking trails. Pay close attention, and you’ll spot large, exotic-looking fish in some of the ponds.

The hotel has 2,881 guest rooms and 174 suites. Every room features high-speed Internet access and telephones. It also boasts the 20,000-square-foot Relâche Spa and fitness center as well as 600,000 square feet of flexible meeting space for conventions and special events.

The hotel's location just a short drive to downtown Nashville, and guests don’t have to stray too far to find most anything they might need.  The Grand Ole Opry House, the General Jackson Showboat and Opry Mills Mall are nearby.

There's even a riverboat ride right inside the hotel. The leisure ride aboard Mississippi-style flatboats takes passengers on a Delta River Tour. Tickets are $9 for adults, $7 for kids.

Convenient shopping is just steps away. The hotel boasts 25 boutiques, fashion stores and retail shops open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Shoppers can find almost anything they need, including souvenirs, custom-made gift baskets, Godiva chocolate and other items.

Shopping generally stirs a hearty appetite, and Opryland Hotel has various options to suit any palate. In addition to the chain restaurants, the hotel offers spots for fine dining and quick eats.

If you’re looking for a relaxed, casual atmosphere, hop over to Findley’s Irish Pub for fish and chips and a Nutty Irishman  — a traditional Irish alcoholic beverage. Looking for something a bit more upscale and low-key? Try the Ristorante Volare or Wasabi’s Sushi for dinner. Many of the dinner spots and bars have live music on certain nights.

For a bit of late-night entertainment, the hotel has its very own night club. The ultra-posh Fuse brings the party crowd out for an evening of dancing, drinks and, at times, themed music nights.

The 14,000-square-foot club features a 1,000-square-foot dance floor. With sultry red and black interiors and an extensive cocktails list, it offers a night of high-class mingling, dancing and fun.

The Gaylord Opryland also offers wedding planning to make your special day that much more special. See the hotel’s website for details on weddings and other special events they have throughout the year.
