Cheekwood Botanical offers free tours
Cheekwood Botanical Garden and Museum of Art will offer free guided tours of its gardens and museum of art through much of the summer.
The guided garden tours, called “Dig Deeper,” are scheduled for 11 a.m. while the “Gallery Insider Tours,” the guided museum tours, will be offered at 1 p.m. Tour topics will rotate monthly and will be announced every three months.
In April, the guided garden tours will take visitors through the Howe Wildflower Garden to experience the woodland wildflower garden of herbaceous and woody native plants, dogwoods and golden ragwort.
In May, an expert garden guide will walk visitors through the Wills Perennial Garden, showing off the asters, salvias, sunflowers and ornamental grasses.
The Robertson Ellis Color Garden will be featured in June, and garden enthusiasts can enjoy the annual, perennial and tropical plants.
The guided museum of art tours will take visitors inside the mansion located on the grounds. In April, one of the art exhibitions inside the gallery, Passing Time: The Art of William Christenberry, will be discussed. Christenberry’s art comprises a collection of drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures that portray the life and culture of the South.
In May, gallery goers will have the chance to hear about the dainty, intricately designed Fabergé eggs, which date back to the 1800s.
In June, visitors will hear an overview of Cheekwood and its various art exhibits.
The guided tours are free, and no reservations are required. The tours are a part of Cheekwood’s roster of activities for visitors young and old. The botanical garden and museum of art rests on 55 acres on the historic Cheek estate.
