Published: Jun 29, 2009

If you think that you can't find lunch for $3.99 in this day and age, try Café Coco’s Italian Market and Kitchen. Its rotating lunch specials can't be beat.

The restaurant and market at 411 51st Ave. North may be a rare find, but it's a delightful one for those who care to venture off of Charlotte Avenue and behind the odd-looking gold dome of Regions Bank. Weekdays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., it offers a $3.99 lunch that changes weekly. Whether you get the 12-inch cheese pizza, baked ziti, linguine with meatballs or another offering, they're all delicious and deliciously priced.

There are also  also offers dinner specials, and the market sells Italian produce and goods. The enterprise is owned by the same people who operate Café Coco, a Nashville restaurant open 24 hours a day and known for its coffee, American food options and relaxed atmosphere.

The sound of Interstate 40 rumbles in the background, but once inside Café Coco’s Italian Market and Kitchen, the smell of Italian sauces and spices will make you forget about the outside distraction.

Shelves and rows of Italian goods beg for attention. The market side of the eatery boasts a small but thorough selection of olive oils, tomato sauces, cooking sherries and uncooked pasta. The cold section of the market features a few cheeses, both robust and mild.

The restaurant has small tables at the front for a more intimate dining experience or larger, longer tables for family-style seating.

The menu boasts both traditional favorites and some not-so-common dishes. The most popular dish, the Fettuccine Pollo Pesto, is a creamy blend of pesto and alfredo sauces tossed with marinated grilled chicken, diced tomatoes and seasoned fettuccine ($5.99 at lunch, $9.99 at dinner). The menu also features salads and tasty panini such as the Chicken Parmesan ($7.99), Muffuletta and other favorites served with a side of homemade pasta salad.

Dinner specials are available Monday to Wednesday, 3 p.m.–9 p.m., and Sunday brunch from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.

Those with a sweet tooth can delight in the fresh tiramisu, cannoli, cheesecake and 12 flavors of gelato.

Lunch entrees range between $3.99-$10. Dinner entrees are between $5.99-$14.99. Café Coco’s Italian Market and Kitchen provides free wi-fi.
