English Rose TearoomIt’s time to get those pinkies up and reminisce on the days of youthful tea parties. The English Rose Tearoom in Chattanooga gives visitors the chance to sip afternoon tea and experience a British tradition right here in Tennessee.
An iconic tradition, teatime and Britain usually go hand in hand. The tradition of sipping the warm beverage portrays an air of formality and regality. In Chattanooga, the authentic British tearoom and shop was established in 1997 and brings timeless traditions of England to Chattanooga. The atmosphere, menu and staff reflect true British customs.
The English Rose is located in the foyer of the original Grand Hotel. Built in the 1890s, the hotel accommodated passengers using the newly opened railroads to the south, with the Chattanooga Choo-Choo station located right across from the English Rose.
The menu offers just enough formality and sophistication to make this an unforgettable experience. Afternoon tea features a pot of tea and six assorted finger sandwiches, a plain or raisin scone served with Devon cream, strawberry jam and lemon curd and an assortment of English biscuits. Victorian tea resembles afternoon tea, but served with dessert. There’s an added fee for each additional personal sharing an afternoon or Victorian tea.
Lunch is served from 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. and includes chicken and vegetable pie, bangers, which are mild English pork sausages smothered with onions, cauliflower, broccoli and cheese casserole and more. The dessert menu features delectable dishes such as sherry trifle, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate cake with fudge and cream.
