Mafiaoza's Pizzeria and Pub: you won't fugetaboutit
Published: Apr 14, 2009
Open since 2003, Mafiaoza’s Pizzeria and Neighborhood Pub continues to pack the house nightly with folks craving their Italian favorites. Located in the 12th South District, the restaurant sits conveniently between downtown Nashville and Green Hills.
Mafiaoza’s prepares its pizza and pasta dishes from scratch, using the best seasonal ingredients — most of which are locally grown. The wine menu features Old World classics in addition to some of the newest flavors produced.
Inside, you can’t miss the giant stone oven that opens to the dining room. Watch as your favorite pizza is prepared before your eyes. Or, sit back and enjoy an evening with friends and family in an intimate corner booth.
The setting at Mafiaoza’s is reminiscent of a 1920s Italian-style restaurant. But don’t let the dim lighting and old gangster paraphernalia fool you; Mafiaoza’s is simply a neighborhood favorite, not the set of the next Godfather film.
When the weather is favorable, the outdoor seating area at Mafiaoza’s always draws a crowd. An outdoor bar makes it easy to take advantage of the daily happy hour (4-7 p.m.) and the Tuesday 2-for-1 drink specials. If heated or air conditioned rooms are more your thing, enjoy the same specials at the bar and lounge adjacent to the dining room.
You can choose from a variety of appetizers including the fried cheese ravioli sticks, ravioli stuffed with an assortment of fresh cheeses, lightly fried and served with a marinara dipping sauce ($7.50).
Mafiaoza’s serves an array of soups and salads. The Coponata, Mafiaoza’s take on the chef salad, is made with grilled eggplant, zucchini, roasted red pepper, red onion, sun-dried tomatoes, pine nuts, basil and oregano accompanied with a balsamic vinegar ($10).
Pasta and pizza, Mafiaoza’s pride and joy, are made from scratch every day. You can create your own pasta dish or chose from entrees with names like “The Mark,” “Ol’ Blue Eyes,” “The DaVinci,” and “The Tuscan Kiss.”
Not in the mood for pasta? Try any one of the 13 pizza creations on the menu, or craft one yourself. Mafiaoza’s promises you’ll love its pizza “or else…” You can order the “Capone” 12-inch pie or go big with the Don 18-inch pie. Pizza is available by the slice, as well.
A full dinner and wine menu is available on the Mafiaoza’s website. The kitchen is open until 3 a.m.
