THE REUNION: UNCLE BOY AND TYRELL © 2009 |
| Description: |
Uncle Boy was an old bachelor. After he retired from the military, he moved back home with his parents and continued to stay on and take care of his mama after his papa passed. Uncle Boy was the type of guy who took care of everyone’s needs before his own. His sister, Hattie, learned something about him one day that he didn’t know. She found out that he had a son named Tyrell who lived up in Detroit and had been looking for his father for years. A son that a former girlfriend named Bernadine gave birth to while Boy was serving in Viet Nam. Hattie decided that it was high time someone did something extraordinary for her very special and selfless big brother. That’s when she arranged the reunion. All the relatives were there. Everyone present knew about the surprise guest except for Uncle Boy. When the front door opened and the tall 35-year-old bald man walked through the door, all eyes went to Uncle Boy. “Boy,” Aunt Hattie said softly, “this is Tyrell Johnson…your son.”. He looked a little puzzled at first. Then, Uncle Boy rose to his feet and reached out his hand, giving a firm military man’s handshake. His eyes filled up with tears and the handshake evolved into an emotional embrace. “My boy!” he said…”my boy!” There wasn’t a dry eye in the house. It was a wonderful day in Uncle Boy’s life. He and Tyrell found they shared the same passion for Marvin Gaye, fishing, and pan-fried chicken livers. They looked at old pictures and talked for hours after the crowd left. He remains close with his only son, forever grateful that he’s been blessed with such a fine one as Tyrell. |
