McGavock Comp High School Reviews

I'm a student at McGavock and it's been made out to be much worse than it actually is. Yes, there are drugs, smoking, and fighting in the school, but that's high school. I've attended one other high school and it was nearly the same thing. That school was much smaller than McGavock and more organized, which was probably the reason for less commotion. I'd like to point out that I will be a product of McGavock and I have VERY high standards. I am also taking all honors classes and am college bound. To whomever said, 'This school breeds low standards and mediocrity!!' don't judge an entire student body on the students who are there and choose not to learn, please. For a person who wouldn't recommend McGavock to someone who had a choice, they shouldn't recommend any large high school.

I attend McGavock high school now and i don't thinks its that bad. Every school has its problems and McGavock is included. They offer good programs like Avid, and Leadership. Avid is a program that motivates students to do good and their classes and go on to a higher education. Of course you have to maintain a 2.5 GPA and you also have to have at least one honors classes on your schedule. Leadership is also a very good coarse for students to take. This class teaches students to become a better person ( in their community, school, etc.) I believe Mcgavock is a good school. The school just gets a bad reputation because its a very big school and of course its going to get the most attention from the media. I recomd this school to parents and students. I'am a student myself and i happen to like it

I have a child in this school and will be moving to get my child out of this school. They may offer some things that others dont but I am not impressed or happy with anything about this school and would not recomend it to anyone that has a choice

I attended McGavcok High School and not only saw a lack of respect among the students, but also a lack of enthusiasm by the teachers. The teachers look worn from the ridiculous behavior of unruly students and disengaging faculty. If you dont mind your child going to a school better suited for an after school special on drugs and violence, then McGavock is for you. If you have a child that is college bound and wants to make something of him or herself.....take them somewhere else. This school breeds low standards and mediocrity!!

I graduated from mcgavock 4 years ago and went there all 4 yrs of high school. The school wasnt to bad. The biggest problem was the lack of supervision and security. and the fact that the school was very over crowed and students were bussed in. There were always riots and fights going on. One year there was a riot duiring a school activity that everyone had to attened. Some one at the top of the bleachers started throwing things and it started a fight that ended turing in to a riot the cop we had was pepper sraying everyone even if they were an innocent by standard. It all comes down that there just isnt enough money in metro to do what needs to be done and its very sad. I loved mcgavock though.

First off I loved McGavock High School, I moved from Rutherford County to Davidson County just to attend. My freshman year there was great but students got away with a lot there at the time. Since August of 2002 when our new principles took over the school cleaned up fast. There were also new teachers and lots of new classes to take. We had tons of choices. Tutoring was always available, so was summer school. They started and optional 7th period class for some students to either catch up or if they needed extra help and had the buses come back to safely take the few or many students who attended those classes home. Overall the school is wonderful and my son will be attending because I will not deprive him of a good educational school like McGavock!

Mcgavock high school is by far the best high school ever. Yes it may have its many faults. but when its time for spirit and happiness the entire school pulls together. The student walk the halls paints red white n blue on spirit days, they dress up when they can and abide by rules. i love u and theres nothing u can do about it has took that school from a very low point to the highest it can go. by far The best school any student can go to . The variety of people is enormous. no body can go with out a friend. if u want a great school with great programs go to Mcgavock.

I attended McGavock high School, and I wasn't very impressed. It seems like the kids have no respect for themselves or for their school. I took several honor classes, but it seemed like it wasn't a big step up from the normal classes. Also the grounds of the school are not taken very good care of. Despite the school, they do have a great Music Program, and they have won tons of trophies. Overall though I wouldn't recommend the school for an education.

mcgavock was a great school i was in choir there and it was amazing i never once steped in the bathroom with drug deals going on (and i went to the bathroom a lot) but when my kids get in high school they are going to mcgavock the best school! i definally recommend it!

Well, I attended McGavock High School my freshman and sophomore year. At first it was alright, but then you get to know the school, and the teachers. There were teachers who would right you up for sneezing at certain times, literally. You couldn't walk into any bathroom at this school without seeing a drug deal going on or a cigarette being lit up. There's always trash in the school halls, that is rarely picked up... Gang signs always tagged on the walls... After they are painted over, they're back up the next day. They have a good selection of classes but they don't look at the health issues of our school. Peer pressure, and people giving in to every little thing. The students at McGavock High School think they run the world, and won't let anything stand in their way, no matter what they have to do. Thank you so much.

I attended the school my freshman year. I am no graduated and living in Texas- I loved McGavock while I was in Nashville because it held so much real world practical knowledge. Yes, it was a littel rough around the edges- but any parent who thinks life is going to be sugar coated is a bloody fool. If you live in Nashville, I highly recommend McGavock for you child.

I have attended many metro schools over the span of my highschool education. I am still in school and recently attended McGavock Highschool. I loved it there! The teachers are very comitted and the school is well ahead of all of the other schools that I have attended in academics. I am in several honors classes. I was transferred to another school and when I arrived the new school was not anywhere close to where I was at, in McGavock. It took almost six weeks in some classes to arrive at where I was. Also, their music programs are exceptional. I was in the Band and it was the best musical experience I have ever had the pleasure of being a part of. Their show couir was exceptional! In choices of schools McGavock is the best.

I visited Nashville this past weekend - with hopes of possibly relocating there. Once I saw the school my child would attend, I was mortified. The grounds were not maintained, nor was the buildings. Hedges were overgrown and grass was growing between the cracks in the sidewalk. When I looked into the windows, I saw garbage all over the floor in the cafertia and halls. This school obviously has no pride to allow it to look this way. I have seen schools with double the student enrollment look ten times cleaner. Goodness, I forgot to mention the writings spray painted on the building, which obviously the administration thought appropriate. This certainly should have been removed. If man-power is an issue, use the children to do this instead of detention. I do not want my child to attend such a filthy place of learning.

We moved to Nashville about three years ago from another state. I am very pleased with McGavock and all the teachers, principals and assistants. They go above and beyond the call of duty to see that the children are excelling. My son has shown a tremendous turnaround from shying away from activities to becoming involved in everything. My hats off to the administration for a job well done. McGavock is a wonderful school that create leaders for the future.

We moved to Nashville from out of state three years ago. I can honestly say that the teachers and staff go above and beyond to help these children excel in their interests. Mr. Tribue treats every child as if they were his own. The students and parents respect and admire him in that aspect as well. My son has developed in such way that is becomes apparent these students are well taken care of and nurtured into their own future paths. They are guided to become productive and successful adults of the future and that makes the base of all great schools! Thanks for all you do!!

My handicapped child was in McGavock's Special Education Progam. Overall we were dissapointed. The LRE classes are in the back of the building and in very cramped classrooms. This is a problem for students that use either a wheelchair or other aids for walking due to lack of room to manuever safely. They are low on teacher assistants for the students and the ones they do have although very caring are stretched way too thin with all the demands placed on them. The special ed busses are in very poor repair, breakdowns are frequent. The teachers seem more concerned in placating the parents than truly fixing the problems. They are willing to create an adaptive program, but short on the tools needed to do so. Parental involement was not encouraged...at all. If your special needs student attends this school you must advocate for them.

I am a single parent with two kids that attended this wonderful school. All of there present school did not give enough home work to keep them occupied in learning. During the years they attended McGavock, I saw dramastic improvements in my children's test scores. If your child likes any hands on activities then this is the school for them.
